Edinburgh, Scotland: Hogmanay

Hogmanay is the biggest and best party in Scotland that takes place at the end of December every year and is the perfect way to see in the new year with friends and family – and even new friends you meet at the celebrations. Hogmanay involves a lot of ceilidh dancing, kilts, live music, fireworks and real good times. Over the course of the three days Scotland’s capital city is a hub of activity with something to suit all ages. On the 30th there is an illuminating torchlight procession that winds and weaves its way through the city centre accompanied by a cast of pipers and drummers. But on the 31st, that’s when the real party begins, the infamous Edinburgh Street Party. People from all over the world flock to one of the biggest outdoor parties in the world and celebrate their night with live music, DJs and street entertainment and when the clock strikes 12 there is an INCREDIBLE firework display from Edinburgh Castle to see in the new year! And for those brave enough, on 1st January there is the infamous Loony Dook where people dress up and go for a New Year’s Day dip in the freezing River Forth – the perfect way to take on your NYE hangover if you ask us! Hogmanay is a crazy few days in Edinburgh but it’s a great way to celebrate the New Year and do something a little different.
