April Artist of the Month | Michael Carini

/ Artist of the month

Michael Carini attended art school in Los Angeles, studying at Loyola Marymount University while simultaneously serving as an apprentice under respected artists Jane Brucker and Roland Reiss. He is now based in his hometown in San Diego, where he returned after graduating in 2006 – top of his class in 2006. Michael’s work can be found in museums, galleries, corporate art collections and even more unusual places (think yoga sweat pants!). It is Carini’s hope that you will completely lose yourself within his labyrinthine type art experiences to discover a new sense of self and emerge reborn. Let’s find out more…

What inspires you?

I utilize struggle as a fuel source for inspiration and to create hope for those trying to find their way. I know what it feels like to be lost and searching for home or safe place. I try to provide that guiding light and a source of warmth and comfort…much like a hotel such as yours (wink wink!!)

Why is he RED?

Michael’s motto is ‘Don’t be afraid to be different. Be afraid to be the same.’ A sentiment completely embraced by RED. This motto is echoed not only in the stunning and captivating works he creates but also the way he lives his life.

Painting has been the only way I’ve ever really felt like I can effectively communicate with a world I don’t always understand. Accepting myself and embracing who I am has provided me with an amazing opportunity to help others that feel the same way to feel more comfortable and find their voice.”

Once close to homelessness, without even any resources to paint, Michael kept a journal of motivating and inspiring words that kept his dreams and ambitions alive. His desire to paint, create, and manifest hope has now been realized and through his work and life motto he now tries to share that hope with others.

Work we love…
