September Artist of the Month – Kamea Hadar/ Artist of the month
Kamea Hadar is a mixed-media artist currently living in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has always been passionate about art and as a child he attended classes at the Honolulu Art Academy and University of Hawaii. Kamea has lived all across the world and used his time studying at the Sorbonne in Paris, University of St. Louis in Madrid and the University of Tel Aviv in Israel to inspire him to create incredible pieces of art. He’s a pretty busy guy at the moment as he’s a board member of the Hawaii Arts Alliance, designer/artistic director of Utopium and co-lead director of POW! WOW!, a weeklong event in Hawaii that brings together international and local artists together to create murals and other forms of art.
Kamea’s work is always traditional portraiture and has evolved from canvas to many large-scale murals and installations that can be seen in cities all across the world.
What inspires you?
“Obviously my work is very much inspired by the human form. I am a very social person and I get ideas and am inspired everyday by people around me. When I was young I was always scared to draw faces as they never seemed to come out right. The human eye is so conditioned to seeing and identifying faces, hands and the rest of the human body that any imperfection is obvious. As I grew up I slowly faced my fears and with a hell of a lot of practice began to paint and draw people, which are now my main subject matter and inspiration.”
Work we love…
Why he is RED?
Kamar is our RED artist of the month because we love the giant bold portraits he paints. But these portraits aren’t the traditional style of portraits you might expect to see; instead he takes something that, in isolation, would not necessarily be deemed bold or out there but when it is incorporated into one of his portraits it becomes edgy and full of life. Another reason Kamar has been selected as a RED artist of the month is that he’s embraced his fear (of drawing faces) and turned it into his passion and inspiration.
