CURATE YOUR CITY: GLASGOW

/ Fashion / Deadsleekit, Glasgow

We spend a day with Iain MacDonald, Glasgow based fashion designer at Dead Sleekit and asked him to curate an exhibition of their hometown. What are the essential pieces that show his city at its best?

In need of inspiration I’ll head to…

Kelvingrove Art Gallery, it always has something interesting to view and you can spot something new every time, you can also grab a coffee and then nip into the west end!

My morning coffee fix is at…

The Southside (train to Queens Park) has a lot to offer in Glasgow and there are a few independent coffee shops to visit when there, especially Tapa, my fave!

721 Pollokshaws Rd, Strathbungo, Glasgow, G41 2AA

My favourite table…

Absolutely has to be The Salisbury, if you want something fine to eat and cocktails it really is a great place to visit!

72 Nithsdale Rd, Glasgow G41 2AN

For retail therapy I head to…

Glasgow city centre and Merchant City, where there are lots of little boutiques to find as well as bigger retail brands such as Topshop and All Saints etc..

The building that makes me smile is…

The Lighthouse in Glasgow City Centre, just because there is always something going on and you can climb to the top and get an amazing view of the city as well as loads of other buildings that will make you grin! It’s pretty high up too!

11 Mitchell Ln, Glasgow G1 3NU

For the heart and soul of the city…

Head to the Tramway, another little gem. The Scottish Ballet is based there and you can see art exhibitions, theatre shows and have a wander around the secret garden, stopping off at the cafe inside afterwards.

25 Albert Dr, Glasgow G41 2PE

For a night to remember…

Head to Merchant City. Lots of friendly pubs and different types of cuisine, Cafe Gandolfi is a fantastic place to try some drinks and food, very friendly staff and they even have their own fish restaurant for seafood lovers. Be sure to make a reservation as this place is always busy. When you’re done you can work your way around some ace pubs! And check out Merchant City Square.

64 Albion St, Glasgow G1 1NY

If it’s your round…

I’m having a Rhubarb treacle cocktail. If you make it over to the South Side to visit The Bungo, this is a dog and family friendly pub that has some tasty food. And tastier cocktails!
