Mintage Vintage – Vancouver, Canada

Truth be told, I have a number of favourite vintage shops here in Canada, but one that always stands out in my mind is the sprawling, old school, gem filled delight that is Mintage Vintage (www.mintagevintage.com) in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In the midst of the city teaming with life and no shortage of eyebrow raising expensive vintage and antique goods, Mintage’s reasonable prices are a welcome treat for locals and out-of-town visitors alike.

Their delightfully decorated shop is chalked full of mid-century and newer vintage items, with at least a handful of older (early 20th century) pieces thrown into the mix, too. Their vast inventory is updated often, their staff are a friendly, fabulous bunch, and their generously sized store offers up vintage wearables for both ladies and gents.

Mintage has been in business for several years now and continues to thrive (they also have an online Etsy shop where folk who can’t make it to Vancouver can by some of their inventory from). I try to pop in there whenever I’m in Vancouver for a few days and never leave empty handed. Be it a 1940s or 50s dress, some cute new mid-century scarves, or the kind of hat that will turn heads throughout the ages, Mintage never fails to disappoint and its one of the first stops I recommend all vintage fans checkout if they’re in beautiful Vancouver.

GoldFinches Vintage – Norfolk, UK

Goldfinches is one of the first vintage stores I discovered in Norwich, surrounded by old buildings, coffee shops and pubs, it’s a great little spot found in the eclectic Norwich lanes. Although GoldFinches has now merged with cool sister brand Finch, you can still buy amazing vintage finds at their monthly pop-up events in the bar next door!

The handpicked stock offers pieces from the 30’s onwards, with an original 60’s mini-dress for a reasonable £18 to a 1980s Valentino day dress for £80.

They always have a great selection of cut-off Levi’s (which are my personal fave) in a tonne of different sizes so you’re bound to find that perfect fit, as well as vintage oversized shirts and tartan scarves. It’s great for picking up pieces that create that nonchalant vibe without being too ‘vintage.’ This place really pulls the students in and with an array of bags and accessories; it’s the perfect place to pick up some one-off prezzies!

We Are Cow – Manchester, UK

There are so many reasons why I love We Are Cow, but the main one would be the sheer choice in there – it’s huge, truly a treasure trove for vintage finds. Spanning over two floors, you can get lost in the rails of plaid shirts, Levi’s and reclaimed pieces. I love to pop in on a rainy Manchester day and browse through endless rails, and have spent more time doing just that than I would like to admit. Vintage shopping can be tricky business with finding sizes, but I can always count on We Are Cow having the size I need. I always go in for my Levi 501s, which are definitely tricky to find the right size in. I always know We Are Cow will not only have the right size, but loads of different washes to choose from too. I also love their reclaimed vintage section, and their own line that they stock. It’s all super affordable too, so you can come out with a bag of goodies without a huge dent in your bank account!

Laura Dols – Amsterdam

Laura Dols is one of the most well-known vintage shops in Amsterdam, among vintage lovers. The store is pretty big, and they offer a wide range of real original vintage gems from mostly the 50s, all in great condition. The prices are a tiny bit higher than the other vintage shops in the 9 Streets area, but you definitely get the best quality and unique pieces for that!

2nd Time Around – USA

We love a good vintage shop at WanderLust Girls. NYC and Brooklyn are completely saturated with vintage stores, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. However, I would say we end up perusing 2nd Time Around the most. They have quite a few locations in the city and all are jam packed with lust-worthy designer digs. I like it because I know when I go there I’m not going to have to sift through thousands of smelly t-shirts. I also know (and 2ta knows) that I am not an Olsen Twin and can’t spend trillions of dollars on designer vintage. They hit that perfect spot right in the middle! I know what my price range will be when I go, I know the quality will be on point, and I know I will always find a gem or eight in the racks.
