Dublin, ROI: Greening the City

Whether you’re Irish or an honorary Irish for the day, St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated on all corners of the globe. Dublin will be the pulsing heart of it all, and two days before the official day, the city will be hosting its annual ‘Greening the City’, where the city’s iconic buildings will be illuminated green. There’s no price tag and the town will start to glow once dusk falls. You’ll need to be sure to wrap up warm for your stroll along the capital’s cobbled streets. After you’ve admired the lights you can head to the pub to warm up and enjoy a pint!

Los Angeles, USA: Air + Style LA

Air + Style launched just over 2 decades ago in Innsbruck, Austria. Originally a snowboarding competition, there are now A + S festivals in Beijing and Los Angeles. The living legend of snowboarding, Shaun White became majority owner 4 years ago and has given the event a shot of energy, creating the ultimate music & sport festival experience. This month Downtown LA will be hosting Air + Style at Expo Park on the first weekend of March. There’s a lot going on, from snowboarding & skateboarding competitions to musical performances headlined by Zedd, Gucci Mane and Phoenix.

Melbourne, Australia: Priscilla – Queen of the Desert Costume Exhibition

Tim Chappel is the visionary behind the flamboyant costumes in the legendary film: The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. He won an Academy Award and BAFTA for his designs. And the musical adaption led to rave reviews and a Tony Award for Best Costume Design. The Melbourne Fashion Festival, will be hosting an exhibition displaying all the costumes Chappel designed. One of many exhibitions held at VAMFF, RED recommends you stop by and enjoy the bright colours and extravagant designs.

Zürich, Switzerland: From Surface to Space – 100 Years of Sculpture, Relief and Collage

‘From Surface to Space’ exhibits a collection of 20th century artistic highlights. Presenting sculpture, relief and collage pieces by Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein and Donald Judd to name just a few. The pieces are, simply put, absolutely stunning. It will be a brilliant opportunity to draw a comparison with classic and contemporary techniques. The exhibition references ‘the historical retrospective From Surface to Space that was mounted at Galerie Gmurzynska Cologne in 1974’ and ‘the major showcase Surface Figure Space that was realized in 1988’. So grand in size, the exhibit is presented in both the art gallery’s impressive spaces and is open until the end of the month.

Bergen, Norway: Borealis – a festival for experimental music

The home of experiential music, Borealis festival gives artists the creative freedom to explore their musical curiosity, channelling sounds through unconventional mediums. Not only will experimental ideas open your mind, there’ll also be art exhibitions and warehouse spaces hosting concerts, talks and films. If you’re looking for something completely new, stepping into Borealis for a week will be for you. Barcelona, Spain: Mutekes – Festival Internacional de Creatividad Digital

MUTEK, is Spain’s distinguished, multi-venue, International festival of digital creativity. A non-profit organization, the festival’s program sets out to create a sound space that supports creativity & innovation in electronic music and audiovisual art. The organizers note “We are in a world in constant evolution and of incessant perfectionism – the ‘MU’ in MUTEK consciously refers to the notion of “mutation”. The festival is a thrilling experience both visually and audibly. There’ll be a strong array of performers, both signed and up & coming, as the festival pushes to give a platform to showcase new talent.
