Coming to Minneapolis this weekend, Twin Cities Pride 2017 is an event you won’t want to miss!
Twin Cities Pride is a unique festival that takes place at Loring Park and invites all LGBTQ+ people and their friends to celebrate together on 24th and 25th June.
Over the two days there will be 400 exhibitor booths, 25 food vendors and four free stages with music and other performances to enjoy – and below we’ve highlighted a few events over the weekend that you can’t miss out on!
The festival takes place on the last full weekend in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. Stonewall is widely known as the beginning of the modern-day GLBT human rights movement in the United States and around the world. Twin Cities Pride hopes to create experiences that bring together the GLBT community to celebrate their ‘diverse heritage, foster inclusion, educate and create awareness of issues, and celebrate achievements in equality’. The Twin Cities Pride festival is the perfect example of an event that allows individuals within the GLBT community to come together and celebrate their relationships.
Ashley Rukes GLBT Pride Parade
One of the main events at the Twin Cities Pride festival is the Ashley Rukes GLBT Pride Parade which takes place on the Sunday at 11am. It runs along Hennepin Venue downtown Minneapolis from 3rd Street into Loring Park. The parade is free to attend and the full parade list line-up can be found here.
Pride in Concert
On the Saturday night from 6pm until 10pm there’s a concert you won’t want to miss – Pride in Concert. Sweetpea and The Vigilantease Collective are your emcees for the evening and the opening acts include Brian Justin Crum from America’s Got Talent, electro-pop artist Luciana and local all-female rock band Rebel Queens. And this year’s headliner is R&B/Pop group En Vouge! Tickets cost $10 and can be bought here.
5K Rainbow Run
Now in its sixth year the Rainbow Run is a 5k that is proud to support the Pride celebrations. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite rainbow colors and there are prizes for the best dresses participants. The race starts at Boom Island in Minneapolis and follows the Marshall/Main Street to Hennepin. And once you’ve finished the race you’ll be rewarded with free entry and a free beer at the Beer Garden in Loring Park – as long as you bring your race number along! But if you don’t fancy running then get yourself to the sidelines and make some noise for the participants!
