Here at RED, we’re all about supporting the environment. With Earth day on the horizon, what better way to celebrate than by calling attention to some of our eco-friendly features in our Brussels Hotel? To make this simple (and not brag too much), we’ve broken it down into the five features that we’re most proud of!

Tesla Powerwall Battery

In May 2016, we proudly installed the Tesla Powerwall Battery into the lobby (Hi All) of our hotel in Brussels. The Tesla Powerwall Battery is a revolutionary home battery that charges using the renewable power generated by the 20 solar panels on our roof. While it may run on solar power, the battery stores energy so that it can operate around the clock. Not only does it reduce our electrical usage, but we’re also proud to say that we’re the first hotel in Belgium to install the Tesla Powerwall!

OUI Bar & Kitchen

We know that the hospitality industry produces a lot of food waste. That’s why we have taken steps to reduce the food waste within our hotel such as switching from buffet to made-to-order breakfasts, providing food that can be taken to go, and using bulk amenity dispensers. We also try to use fair trade and organic products when possible.

Breakfast in Bed

Smart Water and Power Devices

Water is increasingly becoming a problem across the globe as regions face droughts due to global warming. In order to tackle this problem, we’re attempting to decrease our water usage by installing a flush system that controls the amount of water required (big or small flush) and air bubble taps in our bathrooms. We’re also decreasing our power usage by using LED lights in our reception area and sensor systems in our rooms that turn off the electricity when you leave the room.

Bolon Carpets

Since 1949, Bolon has been creating carpets and flooring from recycled materials. Bolon has developed technology that allows them to grind and modify old bits of flooring into granules that can be reshaped into new materials. As one of the first companies to create recycled flooring, the environment has always been at the forefront of everything they do from using renewable energy within their factories to producing carpets without dangerous substances. We’re proud supporters of Bolon and their products can be found in our studios.

Paper Free Meetings

Our wipe-off walls in the events and games studio makes for more creative meetings whilst doing our bit for the environment too.

Eco-friendly Gym Equipment

As part of our mission to decrease our reliance on electricity, we have incorporated SportsArt equipment into our gym facilities. SportsArt is one of the first companies to create eco-friendly cycles and ellipticals. Their cycles and ellipticals convert the power generated by exercise into utility-grade electricity that can then be put back into the grid.
