Brussels loves to shop

The glitzy arcades of Grand Place and around harbour exquisite jewellery (Antwerp being a European diamond-selling centre), chocolatiers and smart fashions. Here too, are the huge malls and Fnac (123 Rue Neuve) Brussels biggest department store. Fashion boutiques abound in hip St Gery & Ste-Catherine – young graduates of the Antwerp Academy set up the astoundingly successful Stijl label here.

The Brussels Vintage Fair is set in the Halles St Gery on the first Sunday of the month. It’s fun to browse the retro gift stores, flea markets and ethnic boutiques along the higgledy-piggledy streets of the Marolles, while antiques hunters (and chocolate lovers) should head to the grand streets of the Upper Town. In short, you’ll get your fix of great shops – and some – in Brussels.
